Smaller rights are frame grabs from Bali. Taken on a day where waves were dead flat everywhere, but fun 2ft waves here!

These days caltex point located in botany oil bay, is over run by hoards of visitors from all surrounding suburbs. Once only Kurnell locals - until the mid 90's.

Cronulla point. Mid winter 2003.
It's often hard to find where all the bodyboarders go when the swell comes to Cronulla point. I've been surfing here since I was in year 5, venturing out with my old school buddies, Matt Sueter, John Castles, Ty Rennie & Richard Robson (aka 1985)
These day's I live just behind the point.
lucky me.

Cronulla's so called "Riots"
This pic on the right - I feel is at the prime of my bodyboarding experience. 1997 Typhoon swells in Shonan came around every 10 days or so. Such an exciting time for keen surfers. Many of the Typhoons generated from around the Phillipines and proceeded directly up toward Japan rather than in a curving motion toward Taiwan, then Japan.
The swell hits for 3-4 days usually before the storm hits the coast. These 3-4 days were for me, 6 hour surf sessions draining my body of every ounce of energy, and sheer fun.
What is so good is the fact it goes from absolute rubbish to excellent fun over night.
I have enjoyed better / more fun beach breaks in Shonan than I have at hime in Cronulla.
Waves read on the nightly news report: 3-5+ meters

From July through till now - I have been advised by my Doctor not to surf until they find out the extent of the long term damage that I have in my right shoulder.
It is an RSI kind of problem called Bersitis. It is a thin membrain that lubricates the areas between the bone, ligament and muscles. This area has tears and it is very hard to treat.
Part of the reason I ride mostly drop knee now is because of this injury and I want to continue surfing forever.
It was done from riding choppy waves and bad landings where as a bodyboarder you use your arms / elbow and shoulders as shock absorbers. Lets just say the spring has just lost it's umm spring. I hope this dosnt happen to others and so long as you limber up prior to surfing, stretch after, and keep your body in good strong shape, you should be able to prevent it happening to you. Also dont over surf!

On any given day - It could be you....
A story in one of the bodyboarding magazines in the early 90's featured some of my friends and I down at North Cronulla. Shame I cant find a bigger picture, but this is just when I was learning to get up on my board, and usually fell off - not much different today acutally.
